Problem: Your Kerberos ticket expires almost immediately and you are prompted for your password every few minutes.

A few services that require additional security (like Colts and CourseEnroll) will ask you to enter your password as further verification that the changes are legitimate. This is normal and there is no way to change this.

However, some users have changed their kerberos preferences so that the ticket lifetime is less than the default value of 8 hours. This is a good idea in theory, but specifying a ticket lifetime of less than 4 hours will result in a ticket which expires almost immediately. It becomes necessary to enter a network id and password every time a Kerberos ticket is needed, which can be several times for just navigating through the Just The Facts menus or Colts.

Solution: Change the Kerberos ticket lifetime to 8 hours:

  1. Click on the Kerberos key icon in the system tray, which is usually on the bottom right side of your screen.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Choose ticket lifetime to be 8 hours, then click OK.
