Using Oracle Calendar Sync 10.1 on Your Pocket PC

You can use Oracle Calendar Sync to synchronize your Oracle Calendar agenda, to-do items, and address book with your Pocket PC.

Installing Oracle Calendar Sync v10.1

  1. You must have Microsoft ActiveSync installed on your Windows computer.
  2. Download the Oracle Calendar Sync installer to your computer. Make a note of the location to which you've downloaded the installer.
  3. If you have Oracle Calendar open, you must exit the program.
  4. After it has downloaded, locate the installer, cal_syncppc_win_1012.exe, and double-click the file to open it.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. At the Synchronization Settings window (see illustration below):
    1. Enter your name and Oracle Calendar (or CorporateTime) password in the appropriate boxes.
    2. In the Server box enter calendar.cornell.edu.
    3. Enter your Node based on the chart below:

    contact your technical support provider to find out which node you should use.

  7. Navigate through the list on the left side of the window to choose the settings for your Oracle Calendar Sync connection.
  8. An important setting is Rules under Contacts. Click Contacts, then click Rules, once.
  9. In the Rules window (see illustration below), you can set what happens when you modify an item that exists on both the server and your Palm device:
    1. Replace mobile device item with calendar server item - this setting selects the event information on the server as the most current information and will update the event on the mobile device.
      OR
    2. Replace calendar server item with mobile device item - this setting selects the event information on the mobile device as the most current information and will update the event on the server.

    Note: You can change these settings at any time.

  10. When you have selected the settings that are appropriate for you, click OK and then Finish.

  11. When you are asked to restart, do so. After restarting, return to this page and continue with the next section.

Connecting Your Pocket PC Device to Your Oracle Calendar Information

  1. Connect the Pocket PC cable to your computer and the Pocket PC.
  2. Your computer may take a few seconds to recognize your Pocket PC. When it does, you will be prompted to install Oracle Calendar Sync Helper Files. Click Yes. Close any other windows that appear.
  3. After the files have installed, your next step will be to establish a partnership between Oracle Calendar and your mobile device. An Active Sync window will automatically display.
  4. Disconnect your Pocket PC from your computer (you can do this by unplugging the cable either from your computer or from the Pocket PC).
  5. From the File menu, select Delete Partnership.
  6. Re-connect your Pocket PC device and your computer. The ActiveSync New Partnership Wizard will automatically open.
  7. You will be asked if you would like to set up a partnership. Select Standard Partnership and click Next.
  8. Select Synchronize with this desktop computer and click Next.
  9. Follow the on-screen instructions and select Oracle Calendar for your Calendar, Tasks and Contacts (see illustration below).

  10. Click Next and the click, Finish.
  11. Your device will automatically be synchronized with the Oracle Calendar server. While this is happening, a window similar to the example below, will display. Synchronizing may take a few minutes.
  12. Your Pocket PC device now contains your Oracle Calendar information.

  13. You can now close ActiveSync or disconnect your device. ActiveSync will continue to run on the background.

  14. To manually synchronize your information, open ActiveSync (you can do this by double-clicking the ActiveSync icon in your toolbar), and in the ActiveSync window, click Sync.
