Computing at Cornell E-mail Services

Thunderbird

Cornell is in the midst of upgrading its email services for faculty, staff, and students. This process is expected to be finished by mid-2010.

Thunderbird is a full-featured email client supported by CIT. See our Thunderbird Description page for general information about what Thunderbird is and does.

Thunderbird is distributed free to Cornell students, faculty, and staff. Since Thunderbird is software you install, it is best for use on your own computer. (Browser-based clients like Cornell WebMail are more appropriate when you use a public computer.)

Students using Cmail: Set up Thunderbird to get your Cmail messages

Download our two-page (legal-size pages) Thunderbird desk reference. Many handy tools and tips if you're just getting started, or if you want to learn how to use Thunderbird a little better.

Faculty and staff: If you're thinking about switching to Thunderbird, please check with your department's technical support staff first. They will be able to help you make a smooth transition.
