Video, Audio, and Text Connections
First things first: don't use any text, audio, or video "chat" program to discuss sensitive or confidential information.
Second, be aware that instant messaging programs are a constant target for spam messages and malware. Be sure you're talking to someone you know and trust before you answer any questions, open a transferred file, or click on a link in a message.
Now that's we've said all that, let's look at audio, video, and text messaging choices. We'll talk about your choices in three groups, ranging from highest quality and complexity to extremely casual.
If you need to use your home equipment to connect with Cornell's video-conferencing, you'll need to choose a system that is based on either of two protocols: SIP or H.323. The choices in our third category (Simple & Informal) typically do not meet this requirement.
