E-lists of Interest to Technical Support Providers
E-lists (or mailing lists) are an important tool for keeping in touch with other technical support providers, and they also offer a forum to discuss and get help with technical issues.
To subscribe to an e-list, send the command join
to listname-request@cornell.edu,
where listname
is the full name of the list. For example,
net-admin-l-request@cornell.edu
To submit a request to join a "closed" e-list,
send an e-mail to owner-listname@cornell.edu, where
listname is the full name of the list.

- ATC-L
- This is an unmoderated discussion list on the general topic of computer technology in education. It is restricted to members of the Cornell community, and is very low-traffic. The Academic Technology Center (ATC) staff uses the list to post announcements of their own presentations and training workshops, as well as announcements of national conferences or campus-based events concerning technology in teaching. The ATC also sends out a monthly newsletter with upcoming events and some web sites of interest.
- Brio-L
- The purpose of this list is to communicate technical information regarding Brio, the query tool used with the Cornell's Data Warehouses.
- BA-Announce-L
- This list is for announcements concerning the Bear Access software package. The list is moderated, so there should be minimal traffic. Messages posted on this list are also available via the newsgroup cornell.announce.bear-access. Comments and suggestions relating to Bear Access can be sent to the ba-feedback-l list, which will forward your message to the people responsible for Bear Access and the network services.
- CCD-L
- This list is comprised of Cornell Computing Directors--individuals with responsibilities for computing leadership within Cornell's colleges, departments, and administrative units. This list is closed subscription, open posting. To request to be added to this list, please send an e-mail to owner-CCD-L@cornell.edu.
- CIT-Alert-L
- This is an announcement-only e-list created by CIT to distribute announcements about significant disruptions, changes, or threats to the campus computing and telecommunications environment, including major outages of CIT services. This list is not used for routine announcements, so the number of messages is low. It is open to all members of the Cornell community.
- Classtech-L
- The list helps distribute information pertaining to identifying, evaluating, and supporting emerging computer, video, and audio technologies for use by faculty and students in teaching spaces. It's also a place to discuss classroom design guidelines. The list is moderated and fairly low traffic.

- This list is for ColdFusion developers.
- ColdFusion-L
- This list is for Cold Fusion users within the Cornell community, to announce meetings, to ask technical questions, and to support the use of ColdFusion.

- Subscribe to this list to stay up to date with Confluence announcements.
- Confluence-Users-L
- Subscribe to this list to participate in community discussions with other Confluence users at Cornell.
- CSLG-L
- This e-list is for subscribers to the HP Software License Grant program. It is for discussion of any issues or reporting problems related to software covered by the licensing program. The sofware primarily runs under OpenVMS and Tru64 operating systems. Additional information is available on HP's The Education Initiative wiki.
- CSLUG-L
- CSLUG-L is a list for the GNU/Linux community at Cornell University. This list also maintains a web-accessible, searchable archive.
- CU-Filemaker-L
- The purpose of this list is to discuss specific issues related to Filemaker.
- CU-LabAdmin-L
- A list for Computer Lab Administration issues at Cornell. If you run a computer lab, or are interested in lab issues, please subscribe. The list is intended as a place for lab-related announcements and questions where our collective knowledge can be shared for everyone's benefit.
- CU-Mac-L
- An unmoderated, low traffic list, for discussions about the Mac OS on campus and related topics. The list is often used to bounce ideas off fellow support providers when problems arise, and carries announcements about Apple visits to campus, information about new hardware, and other relevant topics.
- CU-PalmOS-L
- For announcements and discussions pertaining to handheld computers (PDAs) and related products using the Palm Operating System. This includes Palm handhelds as well as those produced by Palm OS licensees, such as the Handspring Visor series, Sony and IBM handhelds, and Motorola Palm-based cell phones.
- CU-Web-L
- The list exists to facilitate communication between members of the Cornell community who operate World Wide Web servers and/or write web pages for servers based at Cornell. It is open to members of the Cornell community only and only people subscribed to the list may post to it.
- cusoftware_announce-l
- This e-list is a one-way communication tool for Software Licensing Services to announce software-related information.
- eCalendar-Announce-l
- This list was established to facilitate the dissemination of calendar related information to people using the Campus Calendar Service. This announcement-only list is used to notify calendar users of server downtimes, new releases of the calendar desktop clients, server upgrades, training opportunities, etc.
- IT-Security-L
- This list exists to facilitate a private, secure discussion of security issues, concerns and problems related to information technology at Cornell. This list is limited to Cornell staff. Subscribers use this list to warn others about new security holes or vulnerabilities, notify others about attempted or actual breakins that have occurred on campus, and discuss potential security concerns and possible solutions.
- Java-dev-L
- A list for Java developers of all experience levels, primarily within the Cornell community, to ask questions and receive answers. Any question will most likely be answered with a number of possible solutions. Anything having to do with Java, including Sun's annual developer's conference, is acceptable on this list.
- Net-Admin-L
- This list provides a meansfor two-way communication among all computer and network administrators on campus. The Net-Admin-L list is the main discussion forum for anyone maintaining a network, or networked computers, at Cornell. Networking questions, answers, and announcements are welcome. Messages posted on this list are also available via the newsgroup cornell.net-admin.
- Net-Announce-L
- This e-list is for technology support providers and any member of the user community who wishes to track the status of the Cornell campus network, particularly the data infrastructure. The Network Operations Center (NOC) uses this e-list to announce planned network outages as well as unexpected trouble. The same information is available via the newsgroup cornell.announce.networks.
- NT-at-Cornell-L
- For NT users and administrators within the Cornell community to use as a vehicle for sharing/obtaining information about NT. There is quite a bit "under the hood" in the NT world and, without the help of peers, one can waste valuable time attempting to solve a problem for which others may have already experienced. This list also benefits Cornell as a whole because NT administrators can configure their NT environments in a similar fashion and also secure them based on Cornell's unique computing infrastructure.
- Store-Info-L
- This e-list provides announcements and information from the Cornell Store, which includes the Technology Connection, the university's retail store for computers, software, etc. Postings to the list are restricted. Replies go to the sender, not to the list. This list has an open subscription, so anyone can subscribe.

- Regular announcements and press releases directly from Sun Microsystems. Contact adm@cs.cornell.edu to be added to this list.
- Sunfolks-L
- A discussion list for anyone at Cornell with an interest in anything related to Sun Microsystems, including Sun hardware and software. This list is also used to distribute all announcements concerning the Sun ScholarPAC and Sun EduSoft programs at Cornell. Anyone who owns or maintains Sun machines at Cornell, or is thinking about it, should be on this list and is welcome to post messages to it.
- Sysadms-L
- A technical maillist for the Cornell Unix/Linux community. The sysadms maillist and the cornell.sysadms newsgroup have a bi-directional gateway; everything posted to the newsgroup is sent to the maillist and vice versa. The maillist is open and unmoderated. Announcements and questions of interest to all Unix administrators are appropriate, including system administration questions, project reports, special events for the Unix community, and announcements about important problems.

- A forum for sharing information about Vista experiences at Cornell.
