Introduction

This site is a repository of interviews conducted during the research for John Rudan's book, The History of Computing at Cornell, which is available online at http://hdl.handle.net/1813/82

The documents on this site are the recollections of the movers and shakers and others on campus that participated in the development of computing or information technology at Cornell. These recollections provide a more personal view of the large and important events as well as the small and humorous incidents which happened over the almost 50 years since digital computing started on campus. Where possible, pictures or other pictorial material are available through hot-buttons at relevant places in the stories.

The site is organized in rough chronological order of the individual's first involvement with Cornell's computing/IT and the approximate time that involvement ended. To get at some other aspects of the stories, the organizational involvement of each individual is given along with the particular focus of the organization or the person's responsibilities.

The Oral Histories come from the recording and transcription of interviews which have been reviewed and approved by the person interviewed. Other individuals wrote their own stories, which are captioned as Personal Histories. In all cases the participants approved the final text and gave their permission for inclusion on this site. Presentation issues are the responsibility of the creators of this site, John W. Rudan and Stacy Pendell. Comments should be addressed to John Rudan, jwr1@cornell.edu.

Note: Changes may be made from time to time as clarifications are appropriate.
