Fixing Blocked Messages and "Encrypted Connection" Alerts in Eudora

What do I do if messages I send (from off-campus, using Eudora) are getting blocked?

What do I do if I get an alert from Symantec Email Proxy that it has detected an encrypted connection?

Both questions have the same answer: try using authenticated SMTP on port 587, as shown below.

Windows

  1. Open Eudora.

  2. Click the New Message icon or choose New Message from the Message menu.

  3. Type the following (or cut and paste it) into the body of the message:

         <X-Eudora-Option:SMTPPort=587>

  4. Type a space after the text you just entered. The text should turn blue and be underlined. (You do NOT need to fill out any other part of the message or send it.)

  5. While holding down the Alt key on your keyboard, click once on the text you just typed. A dialog window should open.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Your setting has been changed. Try resending a message that was blocked before.

Macintosh

  1. Open Eudora.

  2. Click the New Message icon or choose New Message from the Message menu.

  3. Type the following (or cut and paste it) into the body of the message:

         <x-eudora-setting:7211>

  4. Double-click on the text you just typed. A dialog window should open. (You do NOT need to fill out any other part of the message or send it.)

  5. Enter the new value: 587

  6. Click the Set Setting button.

  7. Your setting has been changed. Try resending a message that was blocked before.
