Set Up Email Forwarding
If you would like to direct your Cornell email to more than just
your own Cornell email account, you can set up email forwarding.
If you are considering forwarding your Cornell email to a
non-Cornell-provided email account, please be aware that these email accounts
may not offer the same security or privacy that your Cornell account
does. Never use ANY email account, Cornell-provided or otherwise, to transfer confidential
data, such as financial information, Social Security numbers, credit-card numbers, employment records, or grades. Cornell's DropBox service is a university-approved, secure way to transfer confidential data.
Cornell faculty and staff
You are urged to refrain from forwarding your Cornell email to an external email account if what you communicate about is:
- subject to the university's record retention policy, or
- subject to other legal or university policy requirements related to institutional access, confidentiality, or recordkeeping, or
- academic or business information typically maintained by Cornell, e.g., official course-related communications
until such time as the university has a formal agreement in place with these vendors that ensures that Cornell's records-related legal obligations will be satisfied and privacy rights respected.
This concern applies to services such as Gmail, Hotmail, Google Apps, Microsoft Live, Second Life, and the like.

To set up email forwarding, go to the Who
I Am website.
- Click on the “Electronic Mail” tab.
- Find the set of boxes labeled "Deliver my email to". Each box can contain one email address, which means you can foward your messages to as many as four email addresses besides your Cornell-provided account. Type the email address(es) where you want your email forwarded.
- If you want to stop having email sent to your Cornell-provided account, uncheck the box next to it. Otherwise, leave it checked.
- Click the “Set It!” button to save your changes.
Messages will be now be directed to all of the email addresses you
listed in that box. (Please note that forwarding is not "retroactive"
-- meaning that the messages you received before you set up
the forwarding will not be re-delivered to the addresses you added.)
